Take a Chance and Stand Out!
I took this photo a few days ago.
It’s the top lake at Pitland’s Farm which is literally down the hill from our home at Clifton Upon Teme. It is also the home of Appletree Kitchen which we like to go to as often as we can. The food is superb, great value, and the family are lovely – as are the family at Pitland’s.
Both have the same attitude of a typical family business - going the extra mile, caring about people and really believing in what they do.
The small pontoon in the picture enables you to feed the plentiful number of fish in the lake and is a relaxing area to be in, as is the whole farm.
The thing I have noticed is that many visitors seem coy to stand on the pontoon. I guess for many they are nervous that it will take their body weight.
However, I also sense it makes the individual stand out from the crowd and for many it literally is a bridge (or pontoon!) too far as many prefer to stay in the shadows so to speak…
The same can apply in business.
Over the many decades I have attended business events I have noticed that most individuals would prefer to stand back, perhaps with typical British reserve, or shyness perhaps.
Whether we like it or not in business we must stand out to attract potential clients.
To attract the fish so to speak.
It is rare indeed that people will find you, you have to let them know you and the business exits, effectively to stand out and be counted.
Stand on the pontoon...
If you need a hand, you know where I am…
Until the next time…
Peter
